During the month of September, the American network of food banks and food pantries step forward together to raise awareness about hunger. Food security includes not only access to food, but the nutritional quality of that food as the foundation to overall health and wellness. Today, nearly 75,000 residents in Fairfax County are food insecure, and just under 60,000 children qualify for free and reduced meals in Fairfax County Public Schools. Since the pandemic, it is estimated that the number of residents who are food insecure has doubled, according to the Fairfax Food Council. Help us raise awareness and offer solutions! Consider using the Hunger Action Month Calendar for ideas about ways you can make a difference.
